Enhancing the value of Italian wool fiber from Gentile di Puglia and Merinizzata sheep through blockchain traceability and environmental and social sustainability.
Is it possible today to define a fabric or a garment as 100% Italian, from raw material to finished product? If so, how? And what “plus” could we offer the Italian textile sector by reactivating such a supply chain?
These questions have driven our work over the years, sparking an idea, giving it strength, and allowing two Italian entities to meet and bring to life an ambitious concept called PURAE®.
PURAE® was born in the early months of 2022 (the year the trademark was registered) as an innovative project with a clear mission: to revitalize the Italian textile-manufacturing industry by ennobling native raw materials, ensuring complete traceability of the raw materials used in garments through blockchain technology, with a particular focus on wool from the Gentile di Puglia sheep and the so-called "Merinizzata Italiana."
These wools, which have been part of our history for about 500 years, have preserved unique traits and qualities and can be classified into two types: one with 24/26 microns and the second with 27/29 microns (suitable lengths even for combed yarns), which we transform into washed or combed products.

VENCATO 1986, a historic Italian representation company with profound knowledge of the dynamics of the Italian manufacturing market, has always been involved in the ideation and development of innovative projects.
Russo, a family that has been collecting and selecting the finest wool from Puglia for three generations, ensures continuity of supply and high-quality standards. The deep field knowledge and the reliability of a historic local partner have led to the creation of PURAE®.

Both entities boast intergenerational experience in the wool sector, covering both raw wool and the transformation supply chain. They share a common goal of revitalizing and elevating the value of this precious fiber and the many shepherds who, as they have for millennia, continue to raise and care for these valuable animals.

Unlike some Australian wools, Gentile di Puglia wool can be defined as "no-mulesing" since the environmental conditions in which the animals live do not necessitate this practice. It has remarkable elasticity, is highly voluminous, has a soft hand, and with a fineness ranging from 24 to 26 microns, it is ideal for both knitwear production and the creation of carded or combed fabrics.

So, imagine this.
Imagine producing a yarn, a fabric, and even a jacket or coat in your facilities with our PURAE® fiber. Now, imagine that each stage of the manufacturing process is accompanied by complete traceability. Picture scanning a simple QR code with your smartphone and, within seconds, seeing the entire story of that garment: from the sheep that provided the wool to the company that processed the raw material, the manufacturer of the fabric, and finally, detailed information about the company that crafted the garment.
Impossible? No, this is PURAE®—a new way of conceiving wool, production, and traceability. A new way to tell the story of our wool, Italian wool, and to showcase all the art, knowledge, and genius that our world can offer.

Enhance
The Italian wool fiber through blockchain traceability of the supply chain and the creation of a QR code (Tag) label that details the entire production process from fiber to finished garment.
Reintroduce
Even beyond the typical breeding regions, the Gentile and Merinizzata Italiana sheep ensure a stable supply of raw material in the future.
Reactivate
A washing facility powered by sustainable energy sources such as woody biomass. This plant would be unique in the world, providing a concrete and tangible solution to the needs of the supply chain, which currently has only two washing and combing facilities in Italy.
Additionally, the plant could also reactivate the wood supply chain, involving individuals in economically or socially vulnerable situations.
Look for
New uses for the by-products of the washing process, assessing their suitability for use in natural fertilizers and biostimulants.
To promote
Environmental sustainability and land conservation through the enhancement of shepherds' work and the understanding of the natural and biological properties of wool.
